🌟 About the role

We are looking for a Project and Strategic Accountant to join our Finance & IT team and play a key role in supporting the development and delivery of emerging and innovative projects and programmes across the Combined Authority.

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified accountant who enjoys working beyond traditional finance functions and wants to use their expertise to shape new ways of working, develop robust financial processes and support strategic decision-making.

You will work closely with colleagues across Finance, project teams and senior officers, including Directors, the Chief Finance Officer and CEO, providing clear financial insight to support decision-making on high-risk projects and programmes.

Potential areas of focus include Integrated Settlement readiness, new finance system functionality and the Local Growth Plan investment process.

🔍 What you will be doing:

  • 🤝 Work with multidisciplinary teams to articulate and communicate complex financial information clearly.
  • 📋 Develop and draft financial processes and controls for new projects and services, ensuring compliance with CPCA's financial regulations.
  • 💡 Provide finance advice and support to budget holders and project managers.
  • 🏛️ Assist with the preparation of funding bids and submissions to Government.

You will be a fully qualified CCAB/CIPFA accountant with practical experience of applying accounting principles within a complex organisation.

You will have strong financial analysis and problem-solving skills, with an understanding of financial risk drivers and how appropriate controls can be designed to mitigate risk.

You will also have experience of:

  • 💬 Explaining financial principles and data to non-financial colleagues.
  • 🚀 Providing finance support to projects.
  • 🤝 Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • 🎯 Managing competing priorities and multiple workstreams.
  • 📊 Using financial information to support effective decision-making.

We are looking for someone who relishes new challenges and learning, has a positive approach to problem solving and can use their professional expertise and logic to influence colleagues within project teams.

🚀 Why join us?

This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of finance, strategy and transformation, supporting projects that will shape how the Combined Authority operates and delivers its priorities.

You will work with colleagues across the organisation and have the opportunity to influence new processes, provide strategic financial advice and help turn emerging initiatives into sustainable business-as-usual arrangements.

📍 Regular attendance at Pathfinder House is required for Finance and Service team days.
